About this activity

Hokkaido Japan Ski trip, off-piste in the World best powder

Hokkaido Japan Ski trip is the unique experience to ski in the World’s most famous powder snow accompained by our certified IFMGA Guides.

You can’t be a lover of off-piste skiing and freeride without having touched the most beautiful snow in the world. Japan offers the “snow addicted” one of the most beautiful scenarios where to plow through immaculate and incredibly deep snow.

Hokkaido, the iconic island in northern Japan known for its abundant snowfalls in the winter months, is the “land of toys” for off-piste skiers, with countless opportunities for action: from ski resorts such as the famous Niseko and the lesser known Rusutsu which will allow you to ski with the lifts without ever stopping for the whole day without ever “touching” a slope, to the backcountry itineraries in the very close vicinity which will offer hidden corners where you can trace curves in virgin snow.

The combination of off-piste and ski touring is the winning solution for enjoying meters of fresh snow every day.

The beauty and peculiarity of Japan will complete the Journey with a capital J, enriching the holiday with culture and history. There will be evenings savoring typical Japanese dishes and perhaps visiting some small fishing towns, immersing ourselves in Japanese daily life if the weather and snow conditions are not the best.

Description

During our Hokkaido Japan Ski trip you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in one of the most exciting places for lovers of snow and off-piste skiing.

Our 11 days program including 8 days of skiing, you will be able to enjoy freeride days in the most famous resorts of Hokkaido and also ski touring days away from the crowds, looking for the still immaculate lines and the deepest powder.

In Hokkaido, snowfalls are very frequent and it is not uncommon for 40 to 50 cm of cold and light snow to fall during the night.

With our private car we can decide according to the conditions, whether to stay and ski near the slopes of Niseko United, whether to visit the wonderful and incomparable forests of Rusutsu or whether to explore the Japanese backcountry with our ski touring skis.

During bad weather days, we will ski anyway, the woods will be a perfect playgroud for foggy days.

Furthermore, a day of visiting the fishing villages on the northern coast will not be missing, enriching our journey with Japanese culture and life scenarios.

Itinerary

Departure from Italy (or Europe) from one of the major airports.

Arrival in Japan, usually Sapporo, capital of Hokkaido. Withdrawal of equipment and rental car. Transfer to Niseko. We will meet in Sapporo airport and possibly share the travel to Niseko.

Acclimatization day in Niseko Ski Area. We will ski all day using the lifts and visiting the whole area.

We will decide where to ski based on the conditions and the snow.
The snowfalls in Hokkaido are uneven so it may be that in one place it snows a little while at 30 km it makes a meter of snow!

Visit to the Rusutsu ski area. A smaller resort but frequented by locals. Here too we will use the lifts to ski off-piste all day in a wonderful birch grove.

We will leave off-piste skiing with lifts and visit the surrounding peaks with climbing skins. The opportunities are many, and the chances of not finding traces are very high. There are no great peaks, but you can climb 2 or 3 times always choosing different itineraries!

Depending on the conditions, we will choose whether to ski with lifts or take another ski touring trip.

Day off! We will visit Hokkaido by taking the car and heading north. We will stop in the fishing village of.. typical for the daily life of Japanese fishing boats as well as having really good restaurants! In the evening, transfer to Sapporo for a city tour. Come back in.

Off-piste in Niseko.

Off-piste in Rusutsu or ski touring.

Return to Sapporo and flight to Italy.
