Sail and climb in Kalymnos, worldwide famous Greek Island for its cliffs, it is the perfect combination of sport and relaxation for your active holiday.

The great sailing, the wonderful rock climbing, the local food will make you leaving an amazing adventure that you won’t easily forget.

The 8 days program sailing&climbing in Kalymnos, will give you the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful holiday, having dinner in front of amazing sunset and sleeping in a comfortable boat in nice bays.

Moving by boat we will get the advantage to reach easily lonely bays, cliffs and start climbing just right from the shore. The breakfasts will be done on the boat, the dinners will be done mostly in the villages local taverna.

Description

During our sail and climb program in Kalymnos you will have the opportunity to tackle numerous climbing routes, from easy to difficult grades, in the most beautiful cliffs of the island.

We will discover the best spots and look for the wonderful limestone that has made this island famous all over the world.

Our IFMGA Guides will follow you throughout your holiday and help you improve your climbing skills by trying to close the pitches that suit you best.

Furthermore, our staff on board the boat will make everything a magical adventure by welcoming you with fish dinners, aperitifs at sunset and unforgettable scenery.

You always have the option to take a day off and enjoy the sea and the sailing. Please note that depending on the wind and sea state the skipper might decide to change some of the anchorages and the program.

This program is open to both beginners and advanced climbers.

Prerequisites

No previous knowledge of sailing needed and the climbing spots we will visit, offer different climbing levels, under the supervisor and the advice of an experience the IFMGA Mountain Guide. We will sail with nice wind, taking advantage to learn some basic rules of sailing.

Clothing and equipment

Climbing clothing, sturdy and comfortable running or gym shoes, daily backpack, wind jacket, polar fleece, headlamp, harness, helmet, climbing shoes. The climbing gear it is possible to get it from the organization. Beach clothes and towel are recommended. A duffle or soft bag or backpack is better than a trolley or hard bag.

The boat

The sailing boat is a classic and comfortable Bavaria 50 feet (15 m). The below deck is divided in 5 cabins: 2 double berth cabins for 4 persons, 3 big bed cabins for 6 persons (single cabins are available on request and with an extra price), 3 bathrooms and fully equipped with bed linen & towels.

The boat has a well equipped kitchen and a comfortable living area, a big table with space for all the crew. For the sun protection, there is a big bimini top and a sprayhood.

Itinerary

Arriving day to Kos Airport. We will transfer to the sailing boat waiting us at the harbour. Depending on the flight schedule, after a briefing on the boat, we will have the chance to sail from Kos harbor to Telendos island. Telendos is a small, quiet and relaxing island opposite to Kalymnos. The distance between the two island is around 600/700 meters, on the east side coast of Kalymnos. We will sleep on the boat in the tiny harbour, after enjoying dinner in a local restaurant. If the first night will be in Kos, the sailing to Telendos, will done in the morning of day 2.

Breakfast on board and first climbing day. After preparing the climbing equipment, by the rubber tender we transfer to the shore and after a walk we will reach the cliff . We will choose the cliffs depending on the season and as a first day, we will have a warmup climbing. The crags are of different quality and some are very popular. We will appreciate some relaxing moments and having a refreshing swim. Dinner will be in a taverna at Telendos village.

After breakfast we sail the short to Emborios. The village is on the north side of Kalymnos. The walking time to the cliffs is about 20 minutes and the climbing sectors are just above the village. The climbing is on grey walls. There are several good low and mid grade routes in a tranquil surroundings. In the afternoon we will enjoy swimming in the crystalline sea of the bay and appreciate the local fish food in a restaurant in the small harbour. Back to the boat we will sleep in our cabins.

Early breakfast and we will sail to a new destination pushed by wind to Sikati bay. We will sail around Kalymnos Island from the West to the East coast. The boat will be anchored in the bay, just near the climbing on the beach. The beach is an ideal for swimming and snorkeling after the climbing. The wild area gives us the opportunity to have dinner on the boat and sleep anchored in the bay.

We will sail from Sikati to Palionisos bay. Palionisos is a small hamlet with just a few homes around a gorgeous narrow bay on the northeast coat. The climbing is done on mid grade routes in five different sectors. After dinner in a local taverna we will sleep again anchored in the cristal water bay.

After the early breakfast, we will reach by rubber tender the bay and enjoy again the climbing of Palonissos cliffs. In the afternoon we sail to the little harbor of Vathy, also called Rina, is at the mouth of a beautiful narrow fjord with limestone wall of excellent quality. There is the possibility to do some deep water solo climbing on wonderful and fun traverse on the sea. Dinner in the harbour appreciating fantastic local fish and back to sleep on the sailing boat.

Sailing day to Kos with a stop in Pothia, the main town on the Kalymnos, before crossing the Kos island with a nice sailing. In the town of Kos we will spend the evening, having some time for visiting the town. In the marina we will choose between dinner in the restaurant or on boat. We will sleep in the harbour.

Departure day. Depending on the flight schedule, we might have the chance to visit in Kos some great ancient Greece and Roman sites.

Her stability conforms to the highest standard class 0, which means she could sail safely anywhere in the world. As safety equipment it carries liferafs, lifejackets, lifebuoys, flares,first aid kit etc in accordance with CDP requirements. As Italian vessel she operates in accordance to art. 49-bis, point 3, ltalian law 171/2005.
